June is often considered a quieter month on the Taranaki golfing calendar—but from what we're seeing on social media, our clubs are buzzing with activity! We love the energy and would love to see more.

 

So, to celebrate all the action happening across our region, we're launching a Photo Competition!

We have recently formed the Taranaki Golf Coaching team who will deliver beginner and intermediate sessions to golfers all around the region. We will be rolling out sessions soon in New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera and Opunake. All clubs will have opportunities to hold coaching days. 

 

This initiative is driven by our belief that all golfers—regardless of age, experience, or location—should have the opportunity to grow and enjoy the game through quality coaching.

 

There is untapped potential for growth in smaller communities, where access and cost have historically been significant barriers to participation in coaching. As a small region with just three full-time coaches, we are overcoming a major hurdle by building a network of capable, passionate individuals—many of whom are skilled golfers themselves—who will deliver coaching in both voluntary and paid capacities. 

 

This initiative has expanded the way we think about coaching delivery in Taranaki. We are creating a model that is more inclusive, sustainable, and scalable—one that can benefit all golfers. 

 

 

As many of you already know, Taranaki Golf is deeply committed to developing junior golf across our region. With dedicated staff like Lucinda and Chris working hard on the ground, we're making a real impact—but we want to do even more.

To take things to the next level, we're inviting individuals, businesses, and golf lovers to become "18-Hole Junior Partners." (Yes, we know we don't actually have holes to give—but we do have plenty of opportunities!)

 

It's a great way to give back to the game and help foster the next generation of golf stars—and lifelong lovers of the sport.

The Golf NZ Annual General Meeting is scheduled for the end of the month, and Taranaki Golf will be represented by myself and a member of our board.

If you have any questions, concerns, or topics you'd like raised with Golf NZ, please pass them on through your club representative, who can forward them to us.

As golfers and clubs paying levies to Golf NZ, your voice matters, and we're committed to representing your interests at the national level.

We are asking for entries for this year's pennants. We had been considering a new home-and-away format, played on regular club Saturdays or Sundays, to bring more excitement to club days and reduce congestion later in the season.

However, after reviewing the feedback—or lack thereof—from clubs and acknowledging that we left it a bit late to implement such a change without disrupting club competitions, representative fixtures, and trials, we have decided to defer the new format to 2026. If interested, please see your club representative.
