The Taranaki Junior Boys competed in the Shand Salver at Marton GC last month. Playing against Teams from Wellington, Hawkes Bay and the hosts Manawatu-Wanganui, the Taranaki side got off to a bright start beating the eventual winners Wellington 2 1/2 - 1 1/2. However the team went down to Manawatu-Wanganui 4-0 and Hawkes Bay 3-1, to finish in 4th spot with Wellington taking the honours.
It was better news for the development side who despite getting pipped 5 1/2 - 4 1/2 in their opening game went on to beat Manawatu-Wanganui 6-4 and Hawkes Bay 7-3 to win the overall competition on count back of matches won.
