The Taranaki Golf Association has established the Taranaki Golf Fund to support, develop, and sustain the game of golf for all in Taranaki. Designed to grow over time, this fund will help enhance golf in the region - from junior to senior players - for generations to come.
How it works
The Taranaki Golf Fund is managed by the Taranaki Foundation. Donations are invested permanently, preserving the capital indefinitely. Your donation or bequest to the Taranaki Golf Fund will help provide, develop & sustain the game of Golf for all Taranaki. Funds may be used for association operations, sustaining and growing the game, or to benefit a particular club in the region. Any donation you make will be invested, protected and grown each year. The surplus investment returns will be granted back to the Taranaki Golf Association every year (or named club), meaning your donation will keep supporting them forever.

TARANAKI GOLF FUND | FAQ’S
- Can we tag the funding to our club?
Yes, absolutely. Donors can direct their gift to support a specific club, ensuring the donation is used exclusively for the club’s projects or needs. When making a donation or leaving a bequest in your Will, you can specify your intent on the form you fill out or communicate directly with the Taranaki Foundation team. The Foundation then manages these tagged donations in sub-funds. The donations, bequests or legacies will always be used as per their original gift intention or purpose.
- Why are you trying to take money off clubs? We don't want to lose someone who wants to donate to a golf club project.
We’re not here to take money away from clubs - we are here to help you attract and retain long-term supporters and the option for a gift in a will that is often a much larger sum. Raising money for projects or campaigns now is not something the Fund exists for or is trying to compete with. The Fund is aimed more towards legacy and will giving to ensure Golf in the region and/or a club is well looked after when the member or donor is no longer with us. The Foundation provides donors with confidence that their gift is secure, invested wisely, and will benefit your club (or Taranaki Golf more generally) for the long term. Think of it as another tool to help your club, especially for donors who want their gift to have a lasting impact. Donors may leave gifts direct to clubs if they so wish.
- If someone tags us into the FUND how does that work... Do we get all the $$$ or part?
If someone tags your club, the funds are held for your club’s benefit, within the Taranaki Golf Fund. The original donation is invested to generate investment returns annually (average return since inception is 8.10%), and 4% of the investment returns are available for granting back to the club or chosen to cause with Taranaki Golf each year. This creates a sustainable source of funding for your club. Should a larger, material amount be left, discussions may be undertaken if any of that gift can be accessed in a lump sum. The club does not need to manage the funds or have that burden to govern, this is the Foundations responsibility and part of the service provided.
- If our club had a “tagged” gifting to the fund - how does it work for the club in getting payouts?
Each year, your club will be eligible to receive a grant from the investment returns generated by your tagged funds. The Taranaki Foundation will work with you to understand your needs and facilitate the annual distribution process. The payout process is transparent and aligned with the donor’s intent, whether it was designated for your club, a specific golf project, or Taranaki golf more generally. If funds are not needed in a given year, they are retained and tagged within the fund to continue to grow.
- Why the Fund?
The Fund is much greater in aspiration than just one club, it exists for all clubs, all golfers and the Taranaki Golf community at large to start a Fund that can allow us all to enjoy, build resilience and grow the game of Golf in our region now and for future generations. In some instances, the legacy or gift may be left to your club direct, but some may be to Golf in general, which is just as powerful for our beloved game, Golf.
